The Old 52 Gift-Giving Guide: Candy

Whether you’re shopping for that hard-to-buy-for person or hoping to remind your family of a time when life seemed simpler, the Old 52 General Store has products that are perfect under the tree or as one-of-a-kind stocking stuffers.

We’ve prepared a list of our favorite nostalgic products to help you select the perfect gift for everyone on your holiday shopping list!

While your loved ones have visions of sugarplums dancing in their heads, stuff their holiday stockings with retro candy from Old 52.

Just a few of the old-fashioned classics to choose from include:

*Beemans Gum - This great old-time favorite, invented in the late 1800's, was known to be the lucky gum of pilots. It was originally marketed as an aid to digestion because it was made of pepsin powder and chicle.
*Black Jack Gum - Sold since 1884, this licorice flavored chewing gum was the first flavored gum in the U.S., and the first to be offered in sticks (before that gum was offered in lumps/chunks).
*Cherry Mash - An American favorite since 1918, Cherry Mash features a soft, cherry-flavored center containing real maraschino cherries covered by a mixture of chopped roasted peanuts and chocolate.
*Pop Rocks - This carbonated candy "crackles" and "pops" in your mouth. Pair with a carbonated soda…if you dare!
*Sen Sen - The Breathtaking Refreshment. Created in the mid 1800's, Sen-Sen "Throat Ease and Breath Perfume" was the first commercial breath freshener in the U.S.A. Valuable to "singer and speakers," Sen-Sen's blend of licorice and rare herbs effectively mask odors from smoke, food, or drink.
*Zotz - The original sour candy…where the fizz izz. Available in cherry, apple, watermelon, grape, orange, or lemon.
*Fizzies - The fun, effervescent drink tablet made popular in the 50s & 60s has returned. Whether you're a genuine kid or simply a kid at heart, now you can enjoy the crisp, refreshing drink that everybody loves to make. A great source of vitamin C.
*Chick-O-Stick - What do you get when you combine Texas Grade-A Jumbo peanuts, granulated sugar, and lightly toasted coconut? Chick-O-Stick candy: a flaky, crunchy, chewy, peanutty treat. When this candy came out in the 1930s, these chewy stick candies were known as “chicken bones.” In 1954, the company found out another company already owned this name, so they settled with Chick-O-Stick.
*Clove Gum - Clove Gum is one of the oldest flavored chewing gums on the market it offers a distinctive taste that you will find nowhere else!
*Bonomo’s Turkish Taffy - Invented in Coney Island in the 1940's by Victor Bonomo, Bonomo's Turkish Taffy is technically a kind of nougat. This Turkish Taffy is available in candy bar-sized pieces that you whack against a hard surface to break into bite-sized pieces.
*Black Taffy (Black Jack Taffy) - Originally known as Black Jack Taffy, these bite-sized taffy treats have a swirl of licorice in the center. These are especially popular with grandparents!
*Licorice Pipe (Black) - This tasty, chewy 4 1/4 inch black licorice pipe is the perfect accessory for your Santa suit!
